The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has alerted the public to a fraudulent social media account falsely claiming to conduct vehicle auctions on its behalf.

In a statement issued on Monday via its official X handle, the Service disowned the circulating claims, describing them as a scam designed to deceive unsuspecting Nigerians.

“The NCS wishes to state clearly that this claim is false and did not originate from the Service.

“The officer whose image is being used is not involved in any car sales on social media, and the account is an act of impersonation intended to defraud unsuspecting members of the public,” the statement read.

The agency warned members of the public to ignore such messages and avoid making payments to individuals or platforms posing as officials of the Service.

“Members of the public are strongly advised to disregard such messages, refrain from making any payments, and report the account for further action,” it added.

The warning comes amid a surge in impersonation scams targeting government institutions, with fraudsters exploiting public interest in auctioned or seized vehicles to lure victims.

The NCS reiterated that all its official communications are disseminated through verified channels and urged Nigerians to rely only on such platforms for accurate information.
