A chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, in Osun State, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has asked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene in the hike of cooking gas prices in the country amid economic hardship.
Oyintiloye disclosed this while speaking with journalists on Sunday.
DAILY POST recalls that the price of 12.5 kg of liquefied petroleum gas, LPG, increased from N13,040 in February to between N17,500 and N18,000, depending on the location in Nigeria.
According to him, the rising prices of the items might result from LPG producers secretly exporting the products instead of closing the domestic supply gap.
He noted that the announcement of the ban on LPG exportation by the federal government on February 22, 2024, had not yielded results.
“I know that Mr. President has a listening ear and will do something urgent about this matter. The announcement by the Petroleum Minister (State) on the ban on the exportation of the product is a good one, but it has not started having any positive effects on the masses.
“The removal of the fuel subsidy is biting hard on the people, and the electricity supply is unstable. All these negatively impact Nigerians, and solutions should be provided immediately.
“All relevant and critical stakeholders must join hands with the President to tackle the oil and gas industry challenges. Rising prices of the item might result from LPG producers secretly exporting the products,” he said.
