Chad Daybell jurors view eerie footage of ‘killer’ dad telling daughter ‘I’m not coming back’ after bodies found in yard

JURORS in Chad Daybell’s murder trial have been shown footage of the doomsday author sharing an eerie message with his daughter as two bodies were found buried on his property.

Daybell is on trial for the murders of his late wife Tammy Daybell, and his new wife Lori Vallow’s children, Joshua “JJ” Vallow and Tylee Ryan.

Lori Vallow’s kids vanished in 2019 and their bodies weren’t found until June of the following year, on Daybell’s property in Rexburg, Idaho.

Two weeks after the children went missing, Daybell’s seemingly healthy wife died in her sleep.

Her death was initially believed to have been from natural causes but an autopsy later revealed she died of asphyxiation.

Daybell and Lori never reported Tylee, 16, or JJ, 7, missing and flew to Hawaii, where they got married.

They were eventually arrested and last year, Vallow was convicted on all counts for the murders of her two children and Tammy.

She was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Daybell’s attorney requested a separate trial from his wife and it got underway this month in Idaho.

EERIE FOOTAGE

On the third day of Daybell’s trial, prosecutors showed the court a video of the alleged killer giving specific instructions to his daughter, Emma, as he was handcuffed in a cop car.

Daybell was at Emma’s house around the time cops found Tylee and JJ’s bodies buried on his property.

Investigators said he was there for around an hour and then left Emma’s home in what appeared to be a hurry, according to Detective Eric Wheeler, who was questioned on the stand.

Prosecutors showed jurors a video of Daybell inside a cop car after he was detained. He sat in the car as investigators searched his property feet away.

The camera was inside the car angled toward the door and showed Daybell talking to Emma, who appeared to be crying.

Emma said to her father, “He [the detective] told me that what they’re looking at is … they found one body with probable cause and there’s likely two.

“So, I asked, ‘Are you going to search the property forever until it’s found?’ and he said, ‘Well no, but we’re going to look.'”

In a monotone voice, as he faced her with handcuffs on, Daybell began to tell his daughter where she could find cash and other financial information to help cover family expenses.

At one point, he told his daughter somberly, “I’m not coming back.”

He also said of Lori, “She’s aware they’re searching.”

Daybell and his daughter then said their goodbyes.

This was all before Daybell had been charged with any crime, detectives said on the stand.

Daybell has pleaded not guilty to all the charges against him.

‘HE’S BEEN THROWING HER UNDER THE BUS’

Family members of JJ and Tylee have been watching Chad’s trial as the prosecution and defense argue their case.

One of the family members was JJ’s aunt, Kresha Easton, who told The U.S. Sun that she thinks Daybell is trying to throw his convicted wife under the bus.

“He’s been throwing her under the bus since all this started,” said Easton.

She believes his lawyers are doing anything they can to distance him from Vallow.

“I remember his attorney, at a preliminary hearing in August 2020 a month after the kids were found, he was referring to Lori as ‘Ms. Vallow’ and not Mrs. Daybell-Vallow or Mrs. Daybell, aside from the occasional slip-up,” she said.

“So he’s been trying to distance himself from her and back away for some time […] But this idea of creating separation has become more and more apparent over the years while watching the court hearings, and hearing the arguments made by his attorneys.

“So I expect more of that in the weeks ahead.”

During opening statements, Daybell’s defense attorney, John Prior claimed there was no evidence that Daybell played a role in Tammy, Tylee, or JJ’s murders.

He went on to argue that his client was living a normal life before he met Vallow in 2018.

“She pursued him. She encouraged him,” Prior said.

Despite the angle that his lawyer is going with, Easton believes Daybell will still be found guilty.

“I’ve always been confident and I’ve never one time been worried about it […] obviously he is innocent until proven guilty, but I’m confident the jury will do the right thing,” she said.

“It feels like a formality. I’ve seen all the proof that I need to make up my mind.

“And I can’t wait for the moment they read out ‘guilty, guilty, guilty.’

“His ego won’t die and he can’t get over himself […] but I just want to see the fall of Chad Daybell, and I want to see him be seen as small as I see him when I look at him with my eyes. 

“There’s no doubt in my mind he will be found guilty and I look forward to the day reality, accountability, and repercussions all come crashing down on him. 

“This is his judgment day.”

THE LOOMING DEATH PENALTY

Daybell could face death if he’s convicted at trial.

Vallow, who was tried the year before, was not given that option due to a judge’s ruling.

Steven Boyce, who was the judge for the killer mom, revealed that late evidence disclosed from state prosecutors could have potentially led to an appeal.

“First, with the defense having timely raised the issue, the court determines that if I were to fail to address this discovery issue, I believe this case would inevitably be reversed on appeal if there was a capital conviction,” Boyce said in the ruling.

Prior argued that it was unconstitutional that Daybell could have to face the death penalty when Vallow did not, according to Court TV.

“The court is unpersuaded that the death penalty in this instance is sought in a manner that is arbitrary or capricious, despite Vallow not facing the same consequence,” Judge Boyce said.
