Former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan has said he will consult widely before making a decision on whether to contest the 2027 presidential election.

Jonathan made the remark on Thursday in Abuja after receiving a delegation of supporters who visited his office to urge him to join the race.

He emphasised the importance of patriotism, peace, and credible elections, noting that sustainable national development depends on national unity and stability.

“It’s only patriotic citizens that build their nations… the key thing we need in this country is peace,” he said, urging young Nigerians to remain actively involved in the electoral process, particularly through voting.

Jonathan added that elections are serious national exercises, not “a computer game,” stressing that credible polls encourage responsible political participation.

Responding to calls for him to enter the 2027 race, he said: “I heard you, and I will consult widely,” adding that any decision he takes will be guided by what is best for Nigeria’s future, especially the younger generation.
