BREAKING: Court Dismisses Suit Seeking to Bar Jonathan from 2027 Presidential Race

The federal high court sitting in Abuja has dismissed the suit filed by an Abuja-based lawyer JohnMary Jideobi seeking an order restraining former president Goodluck Jonathan from presenting himself to any political party as a candidate in the 2027 general election.

The plaintiff had also sought an order of the court barring INEC from accepting or publishing his name as a presidential candidate.

In a judgment delivered by Justice Peter Lifu, the court held that the plaintiff had no legal standing to file the suit.

The issue of eligibility of the former president had been litigated before the Court of Appeal.

This was also affirmed by the Court of Appeal.

Justice Lifu held that he is inclined to toe the line of the existing judgment.

The plaintiff and his counsel ought to have known that the suit was an abuse of court process, it is disheartening as they are both lawyers.

The court awards a cost of N20million in favour of former president Jonathan and N1million in favour of the Attorney General of the Federation.

Both award of costs are against the plaintiff
