A national chairmanship aspirant of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) from Niger State and a former Governorship Aspirant in the state Sidi Abdul Bomi Gulu has asked the party members to be united even as lauded the peaceful conduct of the 98th National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the party over the week.
He said contrary to the expectations of critics, the party by its resolution, has shown maturity and adherence to the rules of democracy by soundly viewing the state of the nation and the party to come out with a far-reaching resolution.
Bomi Gulu told journalists in Minna yesterday that the Governors’ Forum led by the Bauchi State governor, Alhaji Bala Mohammed, was working assiduously for the cohesion of the party.
He said the Bauchi state governor has displayed rare statesmanship to have rallied his colleagues for a peaceful NEC meeting and coming out with robust positions, signalling a brighter future for the PDP and Nigeria as a whole.
The party chieftain therefore appealed to all members to put their differences aside and support the path of peace and unity irrespective of personal interest.
He noted that with the resolution, it was obvious that the needed cohesion was being infused into the party for a better future adding that the PDP has shown example that it is a party that believes in the basic principles of democracy and has reassured Nigerians of the better future ahead.
He however appealed to the party hierarchy to look into the possibility of zoning the national chairmanship of the party to the north central and by all fair and just purposes other states in the north central should allow Niger the only state that has not produced national chairman from the zone to take the slot.
