Bala Mohammed defects to APM, cites PDP crisis in Bauchi

Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has formally defected from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the Allied Peoples Movement, APM, citing prolonged instability and failed reconciliation efforts within the opposition party.

Speaking during the announcement at the Government House in Bauchi, the governor said the decision followed extensive consultations with political stakeholders and supporters across the state.

According to him, the move was a responsible step aimed at providing the people of Bauchi with a credible political alternative amid what he described as “an unusual and challenging situation” within the PDP.

Mr Mohammed said joining the APM at the state level was strategically designed to strengthen the party ahead of future elections, protect the interests of his supporters, and ensure continuity in governance.

He also disclosed that members of the State Executive Council had resigned from the PDP, while arrangements had been concluded for online membership registration across wards and local government areas in the state.

The governor described the defection as a strategic realignment rather than a retreat, insisting that the move was necessary to reposition the state politically.

Receiving the governor into the party, the National Chairman of the APM, Alhaji Yusuf Mamman Dantalle, welcomed him and his supporters, describing the development as a major boost for the party.

Mr Dantalle said the APM remains committed to integrity, sacrifice, and service, which he identified as the core principles guiding the party’s activities nationwide.

He added that the party had demonstrated its grassroots strength in previous elections through victories in councillorship positions, noting that the APM offers an egalitarian platform that promotes inclusiveness and respect for members in governance.
