Founder of the National Youth Alliance, NYA, Ambassador Aliyu Bin Abbas, has emerged as the presidential candidate of the Action Democratic Party, ADP, for the 2027 general election.
Mr Bin-Abbas was declared the winner at the party’s national convention held in Abuja in the early hours of Saturday.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Okpani Jacob Onjewu Dickson, the result was announced at about 5:30 a.m., triggering celebrations among delegates and supporters at the convention venue.
Mr Bin-Abbas previously served as a political aide to former Vice President and 2027 presidential hopeful, Atiku Abubakar.
However, the statement stressed that his presidential bid is entirely independent and should not be linked to his former principal.
“While he previously served as a close political aide to Atiku Abubakar, that chapter ended more than two years ago following a political divergence. Both leaders parted ways, with public consensus affirming that Ambassador Aliyu should chart his own course in championing the cause of the younger generation,” the statement said.
It added that the ADP candidate’s ambition was neither a proxy movement nor an extension of any existing political bloc but a direct response to the aspirations of Nigerian youths seeking fresh leadership.
Speaking after his emergence, Bin Abbas described his nomination as the beginning of a new era in Nigeria’s political landscape.
“This milestone represents more than a political victory; it signifies the emergence of a new generation of leadership committed to national renewal, inclusive governance, economic transformation and the empowerment of Nigerian youths,” he said.
According to him, Nigeria is at a defining moment in its history and requires leaders capable of inspiring hope, patriotism and collective action towards national development.

He called on Nigerians across ethnic, religious and political divides to unite behind a common vision of progress, justice, prosperity and national greatness.
“The journey towards a stronger, more prosperous and more united Federal Republic of Nigeria begins now. A new movement, a new direction and a new Nigeria are set to emerge,” he said.
The statement noted that details of the campaign’s policy agenda, strategic roadmap and nationwide engagement plans would be unveiled in due course.
Earlier at the convention, the National Chairman of the ADP, Yabagi Yusuf Sani, commended party delegates, officers and supporters for their commitment to the party’s growth and stability.
He described the ADP as a credible alternative for Nigerians amid prevailing economic hardship, insecurity, unemployment and declining public confidence in government institutions.
“Our country requires a new political attitude. Nigeria needs leaders who understand that public office is a trust, not a privilege for self-enrichment,” Sani said.
He added that the party remains committed to promoting service, inclusion, competence and national unity.
According to him, the ADP envisions a Nigeria where youths are empowered, women are fully included in governance, farmers are supported, workers are protected and businesses are encouraged to thrive.
Mr Sani also emphasised the importance of internal democracy, noting that political parties must demonstrate transparency, fairness and accountability if they expect Nigerians to trust them with leadership.
