Nwoye, who represents Anambra North Senatorial District, was unanimously selected by the Senate minority caucus on Wednesday.
Atiku said Nwoye’s emergence is “a defining moment for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and a bold step toward resetting Nigeria’s governance trajectory.”
“I am confident this milestone will rally patriotic senators across party lines and strengthen our collective push for a democracy that delivers prosperity, freedom, and lasting peace,” the former vice president wrote on his X account. “Once again, congratulations, Distinguished Senator Nwoye.”
Also reacting to Nwoye’s emergence, Obi, in a post on Thursday via his official X account, described it as an “elevation for more service to humanity.”
“My dear younger brother, Distinguished Senator Tony Nwoye, congratulations on your emergence as Senate Minority Whip,” the ADC chieftain wrote.
“This elevation provides a greater platform for you to continue your service to humanity, particularly to poor and suffering Nigerians who look to principled leadership for hope.

“Remain steadfast in the unity of our dear country, the well-being of the people, and the progress of our nation toward a new Nigeria that is possible.”
Nwoye was elected into the Senate in 2023 on the platform of the Labour Party before defecting to the ADC in late 2025.
His appointment comes after the defection of his predecessor, Senator Osita Ngwu, from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC.
