The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has commended the state Police Command for foiling an alleged assassination attempt on the Director-General of its Governorship Campaign Council, Wole Oke.
The state Police Command had on Thursday paraded a disc jockey, Olalekan Oriyomi, and two others over an alleged attempt to assassinate Oke in Ipetu Ijesa.
The other suspects paraded with Oriyomi were Ayotunde Ikupolati, 44, and Femi Fakinleye, 31. An English Beretta pistol loaded with four rounds of live ammunition was also said to have been recovered from one of the suspects.
Reacting to the development in a statement signed by its Director of Media and Publicity, Kola Olabisi, obtained in Osogbo on Friday, the Osun APC lauded the proactive approach of the police in ridding the state of criminal elements.
“Had it been the suspected assassins who succeeded, the state would have been thrown into another mourning session, which the lying merchants in the state would have loaded its causes on our party without waiting for the police investigation.
“We have absolute confidence in the police that they would do a thorough investigation into the assassination attempt on our Director-General with a view to exposing, arresting and prosecuting all those who may be directly or remotely connected with the crime,” the statement read.
The party added,” Should the whole state be turned into a killing field because of the re-election bid of a governor who has been outrightly rejected by the people because of his unenviable poor performance in the past three years?

“Is it by force and crude means to serve the people who have seen that your best is not desirable for the needed advancement of the state to an acceptable standard comparable to other prosperous states in the nation?”
It, however, expressed concern that the failed assassination attempt on Oke had yet to be condemned by the state governor, Ademola Adeleke, and the state chairman of the ruling party, the Accord, Victor Akande, several days after the incident.
“While we are giving kudos to the police over the development, we are further enjoining them to intensify their efforts to completely rid the state of political hoodlums and go after the influential figures mentioned by the arrested suspected assassins who have been confessing like canary birds in police detention.
“The ever-dedicated and loyal members of our party should continue unhindered in their constitutionally allowed ways and manners of selling our governorship candidate, Asiwaju Oyebamiji, to the electorate ahead of the forthcoming August 15, 2026 governorship election, which our candidate is strategically positioned to win,” the APC said.
