APC appoints Govs Sani, Uzodimma, 4 others as zonal coordinators

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC , Abdulahi Ganduje, has appointed six governors to coordinate in their various geopolitical zones.

The appointed governors are: Hope Uzodimma of Imo, Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos, Bassey Otuof [Cross River, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaqof [Kwara, Uba Sani of Kaduna and Mai Mala Buni of Yobe.

Speaking shortly after the official oath-taking ceremony at the party’s headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday, Mr Ganduje said the governors had the mandate to initiate periodic interfaces with other members of the Progressive Governor’s Forum within their zones and the leadership of the party.

According to the appointment letter issued to Mr Sani, his duties include, “coordinating the governors of the North – West to always identify with, and participate more in the activities of the party;

“Initiate a periodic interface between the governors of the North – West Zone and the leadership of the party;

“Liaise with the party to commence the immediate process for genuine reconciliation of aggrieved party members in the North – West Zone;

“Mobilise Governors of the North – West Zone to effectively and physically participate in party activities within and outside the Zone;

“Consult with the governors of the North – West Zone on issues that will further enhance the progress and unity of the party within the zone; and

“Assist the party on resource mobilisation within the North-West Zone.”

According to the APC chairman, Messrs AbdulRazaq and Buni would be in charge of the party’s activities in the North Central and North East.

Similarly, Mr Uzodinma will be in charge of the south-east, while Messers Sanwo Olu and Otu will coordinate the south-west and south-south activities of the party.

“We are here to mobilise the demand of the people and to form an agenda for the party and the government. We also need to disseminate information on what the government is doing to the people.

“To do that, we have narrowed down our activities to geopolitical zones. So, in all this, there must be a governor who will oversee, motivate, and encourage all within that zone. That is the only way that we can move forward quickly.

“Therefore, we need you [newly inaugurated coordinators)] to mobilise other governors of the zones to effectively and physically participate in party activities within and outside the zone. 

“Also, consult with the governors on issues that will further enhance the progress and unity of the party and assist the APC on resource mobilisation in the zones,” the former Kano governor said.

Responding on behalf of the governors, Mr Uzodimma assured the party of their commitment to carry out the task diligently.

“We will do our best as a progressive governor’s forum to support the government to ensure that it is functional and effective, to encourage all-inclusive programmes in the government, and to strengthen the reward system of the party in government,” he pledged.
