Anambra first lady fetes orphanage children, seeks improved welfare for vulnerable

The wife of the Anambra State governor, Nonye Soludo, has called for improved welfare, love and kindness to less-privileged children across the country as a way of giving them a sense of belonging and assurance that the future is bright for them.

Soludo made the call during her visit to some motherless children’s homes, as part of activities commemorating “Mothering Day”, while describing children as the foundation upon which society stands.

This was contained in a press statement she released on Monday.

Mothering Day is a traditional Christian celebration held on the fourth Sunday of Lent on March 15, 2026, to honour mothers and mother churches, involving family gatherings, flowers, and special church services.

The Anambra first lady, who is also the founder of the Non-Governmental Organisation, ‘Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo’, emphasised that children across the country, especially those in various orphanage homes, need and expect love, care, compassion and pampering at all times.

According to her, the greatest gift anyone can give is kindness, and the joy it brings is priceless, adding that this is exactly what it means to have a fulfilled celebration.

She said, “Yesterday, ‘Mothering Sunday’ went beyond celebration; it became a moment of pure compassion and love.

“Sharing laughter, warmth, and hope with my children at the orphanage reminded us of the true essence of motherhood, caring for the vulnerable and putting smiles on faces that need it the most.

“Because sometimes, the greatest gift we can give is kindness, and the joy it brings is priceless. This is exactly what it means for me to have a fulfilled celebration. Have a happy and prosperous week ahead.”

The governor’s wife also applauded the resilience, sacrifices, and unwavering love demonstrated by mothers in nurturing homes and shaping the moral fabric of society.

She added that mothers play a central role not only in raising children, but also in sustaining peace, unity, and progress within communities.
