Kaduna State governor, Uba Sani, has ordered a thorough investigation into the alleged misconduct by officials of the Kaduna State Traffic Law Enforcement Authority, KASTLEA.
Recall that a popular content creator, Hausa Guy, had accused the official of diverting a purported fine of N20,000 demanded from him into a private account number.
In a viral video, the content creator alleged that the road enforcement officers fined him for and offence he did not commit.
He said: “I was wondering if these KASTLEA officials are ignorant or intentionally wicked.
“They asked for my driver’s licence and all other documents, and I presented it to them . They also accessed the road worthiness of my vehicle, and everything was fine, except for the fog light that stopped working after I hit a pothole.
“One of them immediately told me my fine was N20,000.
“What for ? I inquired,
“And he said all my vehicle lights are not working.
“I asked him to take me to the office, so that I could get a better explanation and possibly defend myself.
“But they told me here is an outsketch; they will only write my alleged offence for me to go and make payments, and if I insist on going to the office, the amount will be higher.
“They gave me the option of paying cash or through a POS agent. And since I observed that none of them knew me, I collected the account number and went to a POS agent to make payment.
“Governor Uba Sani, this is the private account number where the state government money is being diverted. I believe you will investigate this,” the content creator said in the video showing receipts for the transaction.”
But in a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Muhammad Lawal-Shehu, on Thursday, an investigation has been launched to identify the official.
According to him, the current administration in the state has zero tolerance for corrupt practices.
“The Kaduna State Government reiterates its zero-tolerance for corrupt practices in its ministries, departments, agencies, and other state-owned institutions.
“The administration remains committed to protecting its citizens against fraudulent actions by a few bad eggs.
“Residents are hereby encouraged to report any infractions to the appropriate authorities, as any official found guilty after thorough investigations will face the full wrath of the law,” Mr Shehu said.
