During a bail hearing at the Durban Magistrate’s Court, it was revealed by the State that one of the accused in the AKA murder case had his wife fraudulently obtain a medical note for bail.
Lindokuhle Thabani Mkhwanazi, a key figure in the case involving the murder of rapper AKA and his friend Tibz, claimed in his bail affidavit to suffer from asthma with a medical note attached. However, upon investigation, it was found that his wife orchestrated obtaining the note.
Senior State advocate Elvis Gcweka informed the court that the doctor, Dr Moodley, disclosed that the medical note dated March 11 was obtained by a pregnant woman accompanied by an imposter posing as Mkhwanazi. The imposter claimed to work with chemicals and have asthma, resulting in the forged document.
Gcweka explained that the doctor’s confirmation of the fraud showcased the lengths to which the accused and his wife would go, emphasizing their lack of trustworthiness and potential to disrupt justice.
The accused, along with co-defendants Mziwethemba Harvey Gwabeni, Lindani Zenzele Ndimande, Siyanda Eddie Myeza, and Lindokuhle Lindo Ndimande, face a litany of charges related to the murders, including conspiracy to commit murder and money laundering.
The State’s argument against bail for the accused highlighted the interconnectedness of the suspects in the criminal operation and the danger they pose to justice if released.
