32-year-old Muri Prince Emerges Reps Member

Thirty two year old Sadiq, son of Tafida Abbas a first class chief and the Emir of Muri in the northern senatorial district of Taraba State won the supplementary election for Jalingo/Yoro/Zing federal constituency in Taraba State.

Abbas will be the youngest member of House of Representatives in the 10th National Assembly if finally inaugurated.

The election which was declared inconclusive by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on February 4, 2024 is to fill the vacuum created by the death of Hon. Ismaila Maihanchi, who died shortly after collecting his certificate of return in the 2023 general election.
The returning officer for the election Prof. Olarenwaju Oladipo of the federal University Wukari while making the declaration said the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Sadiq Abbas scored the highest number of votes to win the election.

“The PDP polled 19681 votes, Social Democratic Party (SDP) scored 16379, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) scored 12662, while the candidate of the New Nigerian Peopless Party (NNPP) scored 3646.

Shortly after declared winner of the election, Sadiq Abbas, thanked the people of Jalingo/Yoro/Zing federal constituency for giving him the opportunity to serve.

He said the mandate is an opportunity for him as a young politician to deliver quality legislation for the constituents and make diligent representation for the people who have been left behind since the assumption of the 10th assembly as a result of the death of Ismaila Maihanchi.
