29 remanded after Ogun crackdown on 146 suspects

The Magistrate Court in Sagamu has remanded 29 people brought before it by the Ogun State Police Command at the correctional centre in Isale-Oko, Sagamu, pending the perfection of the N1,000,000 bail granted to each of the suspects.

PUNCH Metro learnt on Thursday that the 29 suspects were said to have been found culpable after being screened from the 146 suspects arrested during a special raid codenamed “Operation Keep Sagamu Safe.”

According to the charge sheet, the suspects were arraigned on a five-count charge bordering on malicious damage, stealing, and assault, thereby committing offences punishable under Section 516 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun State, Nigeria, 2006, among other relevant laws.

The suspects, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges, and Magistrate O. S. Somefun granted each of them bail in the sum of N1,000,000, after which she ordered their remand pending the perfection of the bail conditions.

In a statement on Thursday, the spokesperson for the state police command, Oluseyi Babaseyi, said, “Further to the earlier report on ‘Operation Keep Sagamu Safe’ dated April 13, 2026, the Ogun State Police Command informs the public that out of 146 suspects arrested, 29 were found culpable after thorough screening and have been charged to court on April 15, 2026.

“The court has ordered their remand in correctional custody, with the case adjourned till May 12, 2026, while the command notes that this outcome underscores its transparency and commitment to due process.

“The command assures that Sagamu remains calm and continues to urge residents to stay vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies for prompt action.”
