2027: Kogi East APC stakeholders back Senator Echocho’s re-election bid

Leaders and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress in Kogi East Senatorial District have endorsed Senator Jibrin Isah Echocho for re-election, citing his performance and legislative experience.

In a statement on Tuesday signed by its representatives, Ibrahim Mohammed, the group said Echocho’s return to the Senate would not only reward his achievements but also position the district for greater development.

“Senator Echocho represents an easy electoral victory for the APC. His achievements are visible in every local government area, spanning education, healthcare, and community empowerment,” the statement read.

The stakeholders urged Kogi State Governor Usman Ododo and former Governor Yahaya Bello to continue supporting the lawmaker.

They noted that recent amendments to Senate rules on seniority could position Echocho for a principal leadership role if re-elected, which they said would attract more development to the region.

The group highlighted several constituency projects, including the distribution of school buses, the construction and renovation of classrooms, the provision of potable water, and empowerment programmes for women and youths.

It also pointed to his legislative efforts, such as advocating for the establishment of a Federal Medical Centre in Idah and sponsoring the Orthopaedic Hospital bill awaiting presidential assent.

“To build on this momentum, we need an experienced hand. There is no need to change a winning team,” the statement added.

It added that Kogi East stands to benefit from the senator’s experience and seniority if he is returned to the National Assembly.

In a related development, the Igala Vanguard dismissed a statement by a group which had reportedly opposed Echocho’s re-election.

The group’s convener, Lawrence Ankpa, described the forum as “faceless” and accused it of attempting to undermine the senator’s progress.

“We call on the leadership of our great party and the general public to ignore this non-existent group. There is no such person as Simon Ocheje known in the political or traditional circles of Igala land,” Ankpa said.

The Igala Vanguard passed a vote of confidence on Echocho, urging him to remain focused and not be distracted by political opponents.
