US, UK, and Ukraine Accused in Deadly Crimean Bridge Assault

According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, the US and the UK are ultimately to blame for the most recent assault on the Crimean Bridge. Moscow has claimed that Ukraine was responsible for the incident on Monday morning, which resulted in the deaths of at least two civilians and the closure of the main highway connecting the peninsula to the Russian mainland.

The ministry posted a statement on social media by its spokeswoman, Maria Zakharova, claiming that “this regime [the Ukrainian government] is terrorist and has all the characteristics of an international organized crime group.”

“Politicians and special services from the United States and the United Kingdom directly advise Ukrainian officials and military personnel when making decisions. According to the statement, the US and Britain are in charge of a terrorist organization that resembles a state.

The ministry included a video with the message in which Dmitry Kuleba, the foreign minister of Ukraine, acknowledged that Kiev was responsible for attacks on Russian territory.

Russian pranksters claimed they had duped the Ukrainian diplomat into thinking he was speaking privately to former US ambassador to Russia Michael McFaul when they first released the video in October of last year. Currently, the American offers the Ukrainian government suggestions for new anti-Russian sanctions.

“Well, if you were to ask me who blows up things in Crimea or Belgorod, then speaking privately…,” Kuleba is heard saying during the conversation. Yes, that was us, I’d say.

The overnight incident in Crimea was referred to as a “terrorist act committed by the Ukrainian special services,” according to a statement from Russia’s Investigative Committee that was cited by the Russian Foreign Ministry.

An explosive blast in October 2022 previously damaged the Crimean Bridge. Moscow charged Kiev with sneaking a bomb into the country and blowing it up as the truck crossed the Kerch Strait in the guise of regular cargo. Both the driver and several occupants of a nearby car died.

In a social media post on July 8, Ukrainian Deputy Defense Minister Anna Maliar stated that Ukraine had launched its “first strike on the Crimean bridge to damage Russian logistics” 273 days prior, confirming earlier this month that her country had participated in the attack.
