‎Tom Garba, publisher of Tgnews, has lauded the Catholic Bishop of Yola Diocese, Most Rev. Dr. Stephen Dami Mamza, for his heroic and inclusive humanitarian efforts in providing permanent shelter to internally displaced persons (IDPs) affected by insurgency in Adamawa State.

‎In a recent commendation, Garba highlighted the Salama Housing Estate (also known as Sangere-Marghi Estate), a visionary project spearheaded by Bishop Mamza.

‎The estate, which offers homes to dozens of families; both Christians and Muslims includes essential facilities such as a church for Christian residents, a mosque for Muslim residents, a school, and a clinic.

‎This deliberate inclusion ensures that displaced individuals from different faiths can practice their worship freely and live in harmony, despite the bishop being a Christian leader.
‎
‎Garba described the initiative as a powerful demonstration of putting humanity first, noting that Bishop Mamza’s decision to fund and build a mosque using diocesan resources for Muslim IDPs reflects genuine compassion and a commitment to interfaith unity.

‎”This act is worth imitating,” Garba stated. “If we all behave like Bishop Mamza, the world will be a safe and lovely place when we put humanity first.”

‎The estate was developed in response to the Boko Haram insurgency that displaced thousands in the region between 2014 and 2018.

‎During the crisis, the Catholic Diocese of Yola provided immediate refuge in its facilities, later transitioning to long-term resettlement solutions.
‎
‎The project, supported by partners including Missio Aachen, resulted in 86 residential units now housing hundreds of people who could not safely return to their original communities.

‎Garba called on religious leaders across Nigeria to emulate Bishop Mamza’s approach in bridging the divides that often tear communities apart.

‎”Religion leaders should initiate actions like Bishop Stephen Dami Mamza to close the horrific gap that is tearing us apart as people,” he urged.
