Singer Chuy Montana ‘tried to jump from car to escape while handcuffed before kidnappers shot him dead on highway’

MEXICAN singer Jesús Cardenas had reportedly jumped from a moving car before kidnappers fatally shot him earlier this week.

Cardenas, also known by his stage name Chuy Montana, was killed in Tijuana, Mexico on February 7.

The 25-year-old was attacked by a group of armed men on the Playas de Rosarito-Tijuana road and was bundled into a car, according to Punto Norte.

The Corridos Tumbados singer was reportedly handcuffed, according to the news outlet.

In a desperate bid to save his life, he jumped out of the orange 2017 model Renault Stepway Truck while his hands were bound.

However, his captors followed and reportedly shot him multiple times with a 9-millimeter caliber pistol.

Police officers at the scene allegedly found at least five shell casings.

According to Punto Norte, investigators have said that Cadenas was shot several times in his arms and the back of his head.

The singer’s body was found face-up on the roadside around noon.

Photos from the scene obtained by Punto Norte show the musician lying beside the orange vehicle that he leaped from.

Cardenas’ record label, Street Mob Records, confirmed his death in a statement.

“On behalf of Street Mob Records, we deeply regret the passing of our colleague and brother Chuy Montana,” the statement posted on Instagram read.

“We stand in solidarity with his family during this time of grief. We kindly request understanding and respect from the media at this difficult moment.”

Mexican artist Jesús Ortiz Paz who owns the record label paid tribute to Cardenas ahead of a live stream with internet star Adin Ross.

“Before we start the stream I just wanted to say something quick – to do something for my boy,” he said in a clip shared on X, formerly Twitter.

“I want to do a moment of silence for our homeboy that passed away.

“I want to send my condolences to his family.”

Information on a possible motive for the attack has not yet been released by the prosecutor’s office and the case remains under investigation.

Before Street Mob Records signed him, Cardenas was popular on social media for singing and playing his guitar between vehicles waiting in line to cross back into the United States via the San Ysidro, Tijuana, side of the border in Mexico.
