Shoot Vandals On Sight – Tinubu’s Aide Over Highway Sabotage

The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, has called for vandals of public infrastructure to be “shot on sight,” following reported sabotage of an ongoing federal road reconstruction project.

Onanuga made the call in a post on 𝕏 (formerly Twitter) on Sunday while reacting to a video showing damage to parts of the Ibadan-Ilesa/Ife federal highway, which is currently under reconstruction.

“Just shoot these unconscionable vandals/thieves at sight. They are the worst species of citizens,” Onanuga wrote.

The viral video that sparked the outrage showed men in reflective jackets bearing the crest of the Federal Ministry of Works, explaining how critical components of the highway project were being systematically removed by vandals.

“So what happens is that we have some people vandalising these starter bars.

“You can see that they are pressing in some places but all these vandals, they cut out of it, they remove the ones they could remove. They cut the ones that are very solid and remove the ones they can remove entirely,” one of the officials said in the footage.

Starter bars, also known as shoulder rods, are used in road construction to provide structural reinforcement and alignment across road segments.

The Ibadan-Ilesa/Ife expressway, a critical federal road linking Oyo and Osun states, is among key infrastructure projects being executed by the federal government as part of efforts to boost interstate transport and economic activity.
