An All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial aspirant for Abia North, Sam Anya, has cried out over the marginalisation of his Ohafia local government area in the occupation of the Abia North senatorial seat since 1999.
While speaking to LEADERSHIP in Umuahia, the state capital, Anya said that equity demands that the area should be allowed to produce the senator in 2027.
He explained that out of the five local government areas that make up the district, it is only Ohafia that is yet to occupy the seat, while some had done so more than once.
He said those who have occupied the seat and their local governments areas are Ike Nwachukwu, Isuikwuato, 1999 to 2003, and the late Uche Chukwumereije, Umunneochi, 2003 to 2015.
Others, Anya further noted, are Mao Ohuabunwa 2015 to 2019, and Orji Uzor Kalu, who was the governor of the state from 1999 to 2007, from 2019 till date.
“Denying Ohafia the seat is most disturbing when one considers the fact that it is one of the highest voting area in the district and had contributed to the victories of the above-mentioned.”
“I think to appreciate the area for the contributions, equity demands that it should be allowed to occupy the seat in 2027,” argued the former Rivers State commissioner for Special Duties.
He explained that this is like pay back time from those senators and the local government areas that Ohafia in the spirit of being their brothers keeper had contributed to their victories.
Asked whether he is contesting because he thinks Kalu has failed, he said much as the former governor had done his best, it was time Ohafia was allowed to occupy the seat because of fairness and equity.
