The Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP) and a Coalition of National Civil Society Organisations (CNCSOs) have demanded an end to the impeachment plot against Rivers State governor, Siminalayi Fubara.

CNPP and the CSO, who condemned the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State, described it as a “weaponisation” of the State House of Assembly against the governor.
Addressing journalists at a press conference in Abuja on Monday, chairman of the CNCSOs Elders Forum, Baba Abubakar El-Nafaty, described the impeachment threats as a calculated bid for political and financial control, not rooted in any constitutional breach by the governor.
The groups insisted that Fubara has committed no gross misconduct under Section 188 of the 1999 Constitution, warning that allowing the “Rivers template” could turn state legislatures nationwide into tools for elite power struggles, undermining federalism and democracy.
While calling for the intervention of President Bola Tinubu, the group further noted that the crisis is a national threat and urged him to intervene decisively as APC leader and president of the nation.

Part of the demands of the group include: “Immediate halt to impeachment proceedings against Fubara; Independent probe into the assembly’s role; Presidential investigation into minister’s alleged conditions; Forensic audit of emergency rule finances and FAAC allocations; Recognition of Fubara as APC leader in Rivers State; High-level mediation for constitutional order! Safeguards against legislature weaponisation nationwide.”
The groups called the situation a “democratic emergency,” insisting “impeachment without just cause is political banditry.”
The demanded Fubara be allowed to govern and develop the state as he was doing prior to the six-month emergency rule.
