NNL: Abia Comets spanked 3-0 by Ekiti United

It was a dramatic eight minutes for Abia Comets Football Club of Umuahia at the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State, as they were beaten 3-0 by Ekiti United Football Club during their fixture 1 match of the Nigerian National League (NNL) on Sunday.

The Umuahia-based team conceded 3 goals in the first half of the game, with the three goals coming within eight minutes of the first half as Ekiti united ran riot on the away team.

Ekiti United took the lead in the fourth minute which left Comets goalkeeper Ogoke Kingsley helpless on the turf.

The team conceded the second and third goals just within four minutes, through goals by Wadulu Ofoni and George Adedara, as the first half ended 3-0 in favour of the host, Ekiti United.

In the second half, Coach Kevin Ejeh (Mourinho) tried to change the approach of the game with couple of early substitutions, before the restart of the second half, when he introduced Douglas Bueka, Ebuka Lazarus and Chibueze Lambert to replaces Arinze Njoku, Hyacinth Olieh and Ogoke Kingsley.

The changes worked for Abia Comets in the second half of the game as they dominated the game with more of the ball possession, but it was not enough at the end as they suffered their first defeat of the season in a Southern Conference Group A Opener.

The Media Officer of Abia Comets, Emmanuel Chinedu said that the team will now turn their focus to the next game as they travel back to Umuahia to commence preparation ahead of Matchday 2 at home against Beyond Limits on Saturday.
