Kano Police Arrest 78 Suspects, Recover Drugs, Weapons, Stolen Items

The Kano State Police Command says it has arrested 78 suspects and recovered a significant haul of drugs, weapons, and stolen property in a recent statewide operation.

Commissioner of Police, Dr Ibrahim Bakori, disclosed this on Friday, May 9, at a news briefing held at the Command Headquarters in Bompai, Kano.

He said the arrests were part of a sustained effort to tackle crime across the state. Among those apprehended was a well-known drug dealer, 32-year-old Sulaiman Danwawu from Tudun Yola Quarters.

“Danwawu had previously been charged to court in 2022 for alleged possession of 500 cartons of suspected Tramadol tablets and was again found with other illicit substances on his re-arrest,” Bakori stated.

The CP also confirmed the arrest of a suspected armed robber in possession of two Beretta pistols and ten live rounds of ammunition.

“Between April 23 and May 9, 2025, we arrested five armed robbery suspects, seven suspected drug dealers. We also arrested one suspected cattle rustler, four suspected fraudsters, 13 suspected thieves and 48 suspected thugs (Yan Daba),” he said.

Recovered items included firearms, large quantities of drugs like Pregabalin, Diazepam, Tramadol, Codeine, Pentazocine and Cannabis, as well as eight vehicles, three tricycles, two motorcycles, and assorted weapons.

Other items recovered were ₦311,000 in cash, $198 in counterfeit notes, 12 cutlasses, 15 knives, five sheep, two rams, 12 phones, a generator alternator, and various household items.

Bakori said the operations have helped reduce cases of thuggery, phone snatching, and car theft in the state.

“These achievements demonstrate the effectiveness of the command’s strategies in curbing drug abuse and related crimes, which drive thuggery, armed robbery and other violent crimes,” he added.

The police chief urged residents to continue supporting the police with credible information.

“We count on your cooperation to keep Kano safe,” Bakori said, while appreciating the support of the media and law-abiding citizens.
