“I’ve lost a lot of people” – Davido reflects, speaks on misconceptions

Renowned Afrobeats musician, Davido bravely opens up about his grief moments, coping with the tragic loss of loved ones while addressing the misconception of being too accessible.

The superstar, known for his vibrant music career, revealed the emotional toll of his losses in a recent interview with Mystery Fashionist in New York.

Davido, who lost his mother, Mrs Victoria Imade Adeleke, at the age of 11, revealed that the wound from her passing never fully healed. Despite his global fame and success, the grief from losing his mother has lingered throughout his life, shaping much of his emotional journey.

The sorrow deepened further with the heartbreaking demise of his 3-year-old son, Ifeanyi Adeleke, a tragedy that has left a profound and lasting impact on the musician.

Notably, Davido has also endured the loss of several close friends in quick succession. His pals Tagbo, DJ Olu, Obama DMW, and his personal photographer Fortune all passed away unexpectedly, leaving the singer grappling with overwhelming grief.

In the candid interview, Davido shared how these successive losses have weighed heavily on him. He described the emotional burden of watching those closest to him pass away and the struggle to continue moving forward in the face of unimaginable sorrow.

Davido reflects on the loss of his mother

The singer who cannot emphasize enough how much he missed his mother, Mrs. Victoria Imade Adeleke stated how he made a song about his emotional life.

“I have lost a lot of people. I lost my mum at the age of eleven. I’m just being strong. I did a song called ‘Stand Strong.’ I feel like strength and obviously, my faith has kept me going,” he stated.

Davido clarifies misconceptions about him

The recently married singer addressed misconceptions about his ‘too accessible’ life and persona, emphasizing how it stemmed from his big family.

“I think sometimes, people think I am not approachable. Another misconception is that people also think I am too accessible. I grew up in a big family, I’m used to having people around me. My talent and success is God-given,” he added.
