‘It will be embarrassing for Man United in Champions League – Scholes, Roy Keane

Manchester United legends Paul Scholes and Roy Keane have said it would be embarrassing for the club to play in the UEFA Champions League.

Manchester United would qualify for the 2025–26 UEFA Champions League if they beat Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final.

Both legends commented on the club’s chances in the Champions League next season if they manage to qualify.

Manchester United reached the Europa League final after beating Athletic Club 7–1 on aggregate.

Keane and Scholes shared their thoughts on the Stick to Football podcast, discussing the club’s prospects in the Champions League.

The legends agreed that the club will not approach the competition with the mindset of trying to win it.

Roy Keane said, “Everyone’s saying if United are in it, how big United are, that United are going to be in the Champions League. You’re talking like they’re a small club, they’ve got no chance of winning it.”

Paul Scholes responded, saying, “It’d be embarrassing” for Manchester United to be in the competition.

Keane continued, predicting that the Red Devils might only hope to win one or two games before being eliminated.

He said, “The way it’s panned out now, it’ll be huge for the club, and the format might mean they’ll win one or two games because of the seeding. But in terms of winning it, United are saying ‘we have to be in it’, they’re not talking about winning it! ‘We just have to be in it for financial reasons.’ What a place to be.”

Manchester United are set to finish in the bottom half of the Premier League this season.
