Hon. Abubakar Umar Mazhinyi, the Executive Chairman of Askira/Uba Local Government Area, today spearheaded the distribution of palliatives to 4,500 households across the region.

The launch comes just two weeks after the chairman suffered the profound loss of his mother, yet his unwavering love for his people and zeal for his work propelled him to personally supervise the initiative, aimed at uplifting the lives of the vulnerable.

The palliative distribution, flagged off at the Askira Distribution Center, is part of a broader effort directed by His Excellency, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, the Executive Governor of Borno State.

The program targets 4,500 beneficiaries, including vulnerable individuals, widows, and the less privileged, with each of the 13 political wards allocated 300 recipients

Leading the exercise alongside Hon. Mazhinyi was Engr. Abdullahi Musa Askira, the Deputy Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly and Chairman of the Askira/Uba Committee.

The program targets 4,500 beneficiaries, including vulnerable individuals, widows, and the less privileged, with each of the 13 political wards allocated 300 recipients. Additional beneficiaries include party executives, local groups, associations, and unions.

Today’s event covered wards such as Askira East, Noghi, Ngulde, Mussa, Rumirgo/Chul, and Hausari/Zadawa, with distribution set to continue tomorrow at the Uba Distribution Center for the remaining wards.

The initiative underscores the state government’s commitment to easing the burdens of its citizens amid challenging times.

Speaking at the flag-off, Hon. Mazhinyi urged beneficiaries to make good use of the food items provided, cautioning against selling or misusing them.

“These palliatives are meant to support you and your families,” he emphasized. He also took the opportunity to laud Governor Zulum for his compassionate leadership, crediting the governor’s vision for making such interventions possible.

“His Excellency’s dedication to the welfare of our people is what drives us to serve tirelessly,” Mazhinyi added.

The chairman’s resolve to lead this effort despite his recent personal tragedy has not gone unnoticed. Just two weeks ago, Hon. Mazhinyi laid his mother to rest, a loss that might have sidelined others.

Yet, sources close to the chairman say his commitment to Askira/Uba’s residents fueled his decision to press forward. “He insisted on being here today,” said an aide. “His love for his people and his passion for this work outweigh his grief.”

The distribution program has been hailed as a lifeline for thousands of households in Askira/Uba, a region where economic hardship has disproportionately affected the most vulnerable.

Beneficiaries expressed gratitude as they received their shares, with one widow from Ngulde ward remarking, “This will help us eat for weeks. God bless our leaders.”

As the exercise progresses, residents are hopeful that this initiative will mark a turning point in their daily struggles. Hon. Mazhinyi’s hands-on approach, coupled with Governor Zulum’s support, has reinforced confidence in the local government’s dedication to social welfare.

We are not just distributing food; we are distributing hope

“We are not just distributing food; we are distributing hope,” said Dauda Sabo, Media and Publicity aide to the Executive Chairman.

Tomorrow’s continuation at the Uba Distribution Center is expected to wrap up this phase of the program, ensuring all 4,500 households receive their palliatives. For now, Hon. Mazhinyi stands as a beacon of leadership, proving that even in the face of personal sorrow, the call to serve can shine through.
