Authorities of the Federal Capital Territory Administration have initiated strategies to subsidise basic and staple food commodities in the Territory.
This follows after the declaration of the state of emergency on food security by President Bola Tinubu.
The management took the decision in an emergency meeting chaired by the FCT Permanent Secretary, Mr. Olusade Adesola, at the minister’s Conference Room, in Garki.
In a statement by the Director, Information and Communication of the FCT, Muhammad Hazat Sule, the Permanent Secretary said the proactive decision by the FCTA was in consonance with the presidential declaration.
The statement further indicated that the FCT Administration had immediately keyed into the laudable programme, to bring succour to the ordinary residents of the FCT.
Adesola disclosed that the Federal Government had made provision for 150,000 metric tons of maize and 4,496,533 bags of fertilizer to be distributed to all states of the federation and the FCT, to help address the concerns around food insecurity in the country.
He further stated that the FCT Administration had already set up a committee and would soon kick off the scheme to jumpstart the Federal Government’s efforts in reducing hardship for the populace.
“The Administration is working towards making remarkable impact on the lives of the ordinary residents of the Federal Capital Territory, in line with the vision of President Bola Tinubu”, he said.
