Electoral Act: Former IPAC Chair, Ameh Accuses Tinubu Of Lying About Election Glitch

Former Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Peter Ameh, has accused President Bola Tinubu of lying about glitches in Nigeria’s elections.

Naija News reports that Ameh made this known while reacting to the signing of the Electoral Act, 2022 (Repeal and Re-Enactment) Bill 2026 into law by President Tinubu on Wednesday.

In an interview on Trust TV on Thursday, Ameh said that there is nothing wrong with Nigeria’s electoral system.

According to the former IPAC boss, the All Progressives Congress (APC) is scared that the election will represent the interests of the people at the ballot.

He said, “There is no problem with our electoral system.Tinubu lied about glitches.

He said, “I think what the president is doing it is like he’s speaking for the INEC. INEC is an independent body created by Section 133 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).

“The INEC Chairman Prof Joash Amupitan and INEC Commissioners are enjoying their authority attached to Section (151)1C. They are independent. They even get direct chat with resources.

“They have said they have the capacity to it. That they have done transmission in all of the elections, including that of Anambra and it was successful. They have never one day complained. In fact, it is INEC’s critical stakeholders that have put up this reform to the National Assembly.

“So how do you come up and say we don’t have the infrastructure to be able to solve this problem? I know that the president is lying from the tips of his tongue that it’s not true.

“What they should say is that the APC government is unpopular with the citizens of this country and the masses. And they are afraid of the election that would represent the interest of the people at the ballot. They are afraid that the vote of the people will count. That’s the only thing I see from all these. There’s nothing else.”
