Benjamin Levi Madden (born Benjamin Levi Combs on March 11, 1979) is an American musician, singer, and songwriter. He plays rhythm guitar and provides backing vocals for the rock band Good Charlotte, a group that has won several awards. He also performs with the Madden Brothers, a pop rock project he started with his identical twin brother, Joel Madden. Together, they served as coaches on The Voice Australia from 2015 to 2016.

Madden was born as Benjamin Levi Combs on March 11, 1979, in Waldorf, Maryland, to Robin Madden and Roger Combs, who passed away in 2019. He has an identical twin brother, Joel Madden, and together they started the band Good Charlotte. He also has an older brother, Josh, and a younger sister, Sarah. All four siblings went to La Plata High School in La Plata, Maryland.

Career

Madden and his twin brother Joel started the band Good Charlotte in 1996.

While still performing with Good Charlotte, both Madden brothers wrote and produced music for other artists. Madden co-wrote and co-produced several songs on Hilary Duff’s 2005 compilation album Most Wanted. He also helped write “Amnesia” for 5 Seconds of Summer and “No Ordinary Girl” for Kalin and Myles. Madden has also provided back-up vocals for artists including MxPx, Kill Hannah, Apoptygma Berzerk, Mest, The 69 Eyes, Sean Kingston, Three 6 Mafia, Chamillionaire, and Matisyahu.

In 2001, Madden and his brothers Joel and Josh started a fashion line called Made Clothing. In early 2006, they changed the name to DCMA Collective. They opened a DCMA Collective store in Los Angeles on March 15, 2008, but it later closed.

On April 3, 2010, Madden participated in a boxing match against MTV and VH1 host Riki Rachtman at Ellismania 5: Get These Brawls. The event took place at The Joint in the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas and was hosted by Jason Ellis. Madden won by knocking out Rachtman 1 minute and 42 seconds into the first round.

On November 11, 2011, Madden and his brother Joel released a free mix-tape called “The Madden Brothers: Before Volume 1.” The mix-tape featured new artists the brothers liked, and their brother Josh helped produce it.
