Bauchi Woman Murdered on Her Way Home, Police Fail to Arrest Known Suspects

A 70-year-old Christian woman, Mama Talatu Joshua, has been gruesomely murdered in Gobir village, Kirfi Local Government Area of Bauchi State. According to a family source, who disclosed this information through a law firm on Tuesday, the deceased was attacked by suspects on her way back home from St. Benedict Catholic Church on March 2, 2024, at approximately 4:00 p.m.

The petition, addressed to the Commissioner of Police through the law firm Ada-Light Kwaltings, Samuel & Partners, disclosed that the deceased was assaulted and inflicted with multiple injuries from sticks, knives, and cutlasses on her face and neck, resulting in her death at the scene.

According to the petition, signed by CY Kwaltings, Esq., and M.K. Joshua, Esq., the complainant immediately contacted Police ASP Jerry via phone number 08122990897 and informed him of the incident.

ASP Jerry arrived at the scene with his team and met the deceased’s lifeless body. However, the police left the corpse without providing further instructions.

Since the incident on March 2, 2024, the Kirfi Division police have failed to take further action against the suspects, who were seen fleeing the scene and were not arrested for investigation

The petition noted that on March 3, 2025, the complainant did not hear from the police and proceeded to contact ASP Jerry again to inquire about the next steps for handling the deceased’s body. ASP Jerry instructed the complainant to proceed with the burial, stating that they had obtained all necessary information.

The petition alleged that since the incident on March 2, 2024, the Kirfi Division police, Bauchi State have failed to take further action against the suspects, who were seen fleeing the scene and were not arrested for investigation or interrogation.
