Another ADC Senator Defects To NDC

The Minority Whip of the Senate, Tony Nwoye, representing Anambra North Senatorial District, has defected from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

Naija News reports that Nwoye announced his defection on Wednesday in a letter read during plenary by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

In the letter, the senator said the decision was prompted by the ongoing internal crisis and legal battles affecting the ADC.

“I write to formally notify you of my resignation from the African Democratic Congress and my intention to defect to the Nigerian Democratic Congress,” Nwoye stated.

He explained that persistent divisions and multiple court cases had weakened the stability of the party.

“The ongoing multiple litigations at the Federal High Court and the recent judgment affecting the ADC have unfortunately affected the coalition and stability of the party

Nwoye’s defection comes barely 24 hours after Senators Victor Umeh and Rufai Hanga also joined the NDC.

With the latest development, the NDC now has four senators in the Red Chamber, including former Bayelsa State Governor, Henry Seriake Dickson, who leads the caucus.

Despite the defection, the ADC still retains seven senators, maintaining its position as the leading opposition party in the Senate.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) currently holds five seats in the chamber.
