Buhari’s greatest legacy is investment in education, human capital — Aisha Buhari

Former First Lady, Aisha Muhammadu Buhari, has described education and human capital development as the greatest legacy of her late husband, former President Muhammadu Buhari, saying his commitment to investing in future generations will continue beyond his lifetime.

Mrs Buhari spoke during the groundbreaking ceremony for a Computer Science Complex at Al-Qalam University, Katsina, an initiative funded with proceeds from the book From Soldier to Statesman: The Legacy of Muhammadu Buhari.

She said the project reflects the family’s determination to preserve the former president’s legacy through investments in knowledge and innovation rather than physical monuments.

“Today marks far more than the commencement of a new building; it marks the beginning of a vision that equips future generations with the knowledge and skills required to thrive in an increasingly digital world,” she said.

According to her, the Computer Science Complex will serve as a lasting tribute to the late former president, whose life was defined by duty, discipline, integrity and commitment to national development.

She noted that channeling the proceeds of the Buhari legacy book into an educational facility underscores the family’s belief that the most enduring memorial is one that creates opportunities for future generations.

“The greatest memorial we can build is not merely one of concrete and steel, but one that nurtures knowledge, character and opportunity for generations yet unborn,” she said.

Mrs Buhari added that the project aligns with the late president’s lifelong belief in education as a catalyst for national development and human capital growth.

In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor of Al-Qalam University, Prof. Nasiru Musa Yauri, described the Computer Science Complex as a landmark intervention that would significantly enhance the teaching and learning of computing and related disciplines at the institution.

“It is very dear to our hearts, a project that promises to bring unquantifiable benefits to our community,” Yauri said.

The Computer Science Complex is being financed from proceeds of From Soldier to Statesman: The Legacy of Muhammadu Buhari, a publication documenting the life and public service of the late Nigerian leader.
