Academic City University, Ghana, is positioning itself as a leading force in the transformation of higher education in Africa through a model that prioritises innovation, entrepreneurship and hands-on learning over traditional classroom instruction.

A statement shared with Society Plus reads, “Across the continent, universities are increasingly being challenged to do more than award degrees, with growing expectations to produce graduates capable of solving real-world problems, creating jobs and driving economic development. In Africa, where youth unemployment and rapid technological change continue to shape development priorities, the need for practice-oriented higher education has become even more urgent.

“Based in Accra, Academic City University has emerged as one of Ghana’s fastest-growing private universities, with a reputation for producing graduates equipped to compete in global industries. The institution says its mission is to develop ethical leaders and future-ready problem solvers who can address Africa’s most pressing challenges through innovation and entrepreneurship.”

Speaking on the university’s philosophy, its president, Prof. Fred McBagonluri, said education must go beyond academic knowledge to focus on impact and value creation.

“We believe education must go beyond knowledge acquisition. We are committed to developing innovators, entrepreneurs and leaders who can create value and solve complex problems in their communities and across the world,” he said.

He added that the university’s academic approach is anchored on experiential learning, critical thinking and leadership development. According to him, students are exposed to project-based learning, research, product development and entrepreneurial activities throughout their studies, ensuring they graduate with both academic qualifications and practical experience.
