Despite the surplus number of churches and mosques everywhere, Nigerians are generally people of low morals and self-centeredness. In my line of work, I have worked with different nationalities, including Zimbabweans, Ghanians, Zambians, Kenyans, etc., and these people, on average, have higher integrity than Nigerians. A Nigerian, on first interaction, work, or business, is actively thinking of how to scam or take advantage of you or the situation, while pretending to tag along with you. And that includes people with a religious tag to their names. So no surprises here. As long as money is involved, they’re ready to sell their family members to get a piece. And politicians understand and make maximum use of the system by ensuring resources and money for development are diverted to personal use. By keeping the people poor and deprived, they control them by empowering a few with a small percentage of the public loot, who then become vocal and control the narratives in the media and the larger masses with rice and 5K.
