As political positioning ahead of the 2027 general elections gathers momentum, Okonkwo described the former Anambra State governor as his “leader, mentor and elder brother”.
The lawmaker, who represents the Idemili North and South Federal Constituency in Anambra State and serves as Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on NAFDAC, made the declaration in a statement that emphasised ideological commitment over political convenience.
“Loyalty is not merely about standing with a movement when it is convenient; it is about believing in an ideology strong enough to inspire sacrifice, unity and hope for a better future,” Okonkwo said.
He continued: “Today, I proudly stand with my leader, mentor and elder brother, H.E. Peter Obi, reaffirming our collective commitment to the ideals of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) — a movement built on inclusion, justice, accountability and the genuine desire to rebuild Nigeria for all.”

The lawmaker painted a vision of a renewed Nigeria that prioritises the empowerment of young people and women.
“Our vision is clear: a Nigeria where the youth are not sidelined but empowered to lead innovation, enterprise and governance; a Nigeria where women are not only recognised but given equal opportunities to thrive, contribute and shape the future of our nation,” he stated.
Okonkwo stressed that the strength of any society depends on how it integrates its youth, protects the dignity of women, and restores honour to public service.
He framed his support for Obi and the NDC as more than partisan politics.
“For me, this journey is beyond politics. It is about loyalty to the people, loyalty to progress and loyalty to a generation yearning for responsible leadership.
“It is about building a political culture that rewards hard work, integrity, competence and compassion over division and selfish interests,” he said.
Expressing optimism that Obi will win the 2027 presidential poll, Okonkwo said the future of Nigeria and its people remains bright.
“As we continue this movement together, I remain committed to the cause of giving Nigerians renewed hope, strengthening democratic values and ensuring that governance truly reflects the aspirations of the people,” Okonkwo added.
