Court Remands ‘Retired Major General’ Gololo For Cyberstalking Akpabio

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has ordered the remand of an acclaimed retired Major General Garba Gololo at the Kuje Correctional Centre over alleged cyberstalking, defamation and incitement.

Naija News reports that Justice Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia gave the order after Gololo pleaded not guilty to a seven-count charge filed against him by the Inspector-General of Police.

The charges stem from comments allegedly made about the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio.

After taking his plea, the court adjourned the matter till June 15 for the hearing of Gololo’s bail application.

Justice Ofili-Ajumogobia ordered that the retired military officer be remanded pending the hearing.

Gololo was represented in court by his counsel, Mohammed Habu.

The Inspector-General of Police arraigned Gololo over allegations that a viral video and Facebook posts attributed to him violated provisions of the Cybercrimes Act and the Penal Code.

The charges arose from a video in which Gololo allegedly claimed that Akpabio said northerners must vote for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election or risk being expelled from Nigeria.

Naija News reports that Gololo denied all seven counts.

The office of the Senate President had earlier denied the allegation attributed to Akpabio. It described the claims as false and malicious.
