“Don’t change what you own or created to please your pay masters” – Do2dtun shares his take on Tyla winning the American music awards over Rema, Burna Boy, others

Nigerian media personality Do2dtun has shared his take on South African singer Tyla winning the American Music Awards.

Kemi Filani reported that on Monday, the South African music star made history after clinching two major awards at the prestigious ceremony.

The singer won the Best Afrobeats Artist category, defeating top African acts including Burna Boy, Wizkid, Rema and Moliy. She also secured the fan-voted Social Song of the Year award for her hit single, “Chanel,” becoming the only African artist to win at the 52nd edition of the AMAs.

Reacting to it, Do2dtun shared a conspiracy theory that Americans wanted to give Afrobeat a different meaning and interpretation. According to him, they didn’t like how it took over every other genre.

He admonished Nigerians never to change what they own or have created to please their paymasters.

Americans wanted this to have a different meaning and interpretation. They didn’t like how it took over every other genre. However, on our side, we need to learn something from this. Don’t change what you own or created to please your pay masters. We own it, but it was redescribed because some people wanted to champion it with a different meaning for their bread. It paid off for them at the time, sadly, it was fully misinterpreted when the “S” was added. This is the result”.

Similarly, a year ago, he had also reacted to Tyla winning the VMA’s award for Afrobeat, knocking her for taking home the award yet claiming she was nominated in the wrong category. He slammed Nigerians for selling their birthright for peanuts.

Recall that Tyla rose to fame with her hit song, Water, which won her a Grammy award. The Grammy singer has since made her mark in the foreign music scene, from Nigeria to the Western world.

In a sit-down interview with KissFresh radio months back, the South African singer was asked what it was like working with Nigerian singer Tems, and she responded that the experience was amazing and that Tems is very talented. She went on to say that Tems is a force and that she has opened a lot of doors for female singers. The South African singer also spoke about how it has been an honour working with her.

Apart from Tems, Tyla has been quite open to working with Nigerian singers. She has often been seen hanging out with Ayra Starr, and both singers are often compared with each other, especially in their fashion sense.
