“I have learned to prioritise myself” – Funke Akindele says as she advises women on self-care

Nollywood actress Funke Akindele has advised women on the importance of self-care.

On her Instagram page, she said that over time, she has learned that taking care of oneself isn’t selfish. According to her, from resting to praying, spending time at the spa or salon, to taking care of her mental, physical, and spiritual health, she has learned to prioritise herself.

Akindele noted how women pour so much into others and admonished them to fill themselves up, love themselves, be kind to themselves, and take care of themselves in their little ways. She added that self-care doesn’t always have to be expensive; resting, sleeping, praying, taking a walk, or giving themselves peace of mind is enough.

After losing her Lagos State Governorship election, the award-winning actress spoke about why she was working on herself. She said she is working on herself for no one, and that she is doing so to become a better version of herself.

Not done, in a message to her fans, she advised them never to change themselves so that people would like them. She told her followers to be themselves so that the right people will love them.

In 2024, the box office Queen had disagreed with a Twitter user who spoke out on her work ethic. The tweep revealed how she gets inspired by the award-winning filmmaker and stated that when she wants to rest, she remembers Funke is not resting and as such, continues her hustle. Disagreeing with her, Funke stated that she takes some time off to rest well.

She had replied to a fan who asked her to give her twins a new sibling. Funke stated that she had registered his name and would find his address so he could babysit the new baby.

The mother of twins had also replied to a fan who inquired about her sexual life. The fan had questioned if the mother of two had time for sex, as she urged her to create time for sex and massage. Funke had replied to her, expressing shock at her statement.

Funke replied a Twitter user who advised her to get remarried. The tweep had urged her to get remarried in 2024, pointing out how the filmmaker is getting old, and Funke responded by appreciating him for the advice, noting how he was the wedding planner.

Recall that in 2022, JJC Skillz shocked the world when he announced the end of his 7-year-old union to the actress, as he admitted that the marriage had been having issues for the past two years, as he revealed that the actress asked him to leave her house, and refused any form of amicable communication with him.

Speaking on their separation, Funke Akindele, in an interview with Legit.ng revealed that their vision no longer aligned, while adding that all efforts to make it work fell on de@f ears, hence, their decision to split.

Funke Akindele was once married to Adeola Kehinde Oloyede in 2013, but they divorced in May 2016, citing irreconcilable differences.

Speaking on it, Funke hinted at being pressured into marriage as she admonished young women against rushing into marriage because of pressure. She noted how her first marriage ended in a very bad way, and it was all over social media, which led her to lose several endorsement deals and broke her down.

In a past interview, she explained why she doesn’t see her divorce as a failure. Funke said before her mother’s demise, she taught her that, without failure, there cannot be success. She added that her top priority is to live an impactful life and to provide for her children and siblings.
