APPEAL FOR PRESIDENTIAL INTERVENTION ON THE ABANDONED IDAH–NSUKKA FEDERAL ROAD

I respectfully write to draw Your Excellency’s urgent attention to the abandoned 84km Idah–Odolu–Nsukka Federal Road, a critical component of the Idah–Odolu–Nsukka–Adani–Otuocha–Onitsha corridor linking Kogi, Enugu, and Anambra States.

The road was first awarded in the mid-1990s to cut Enugu–Abuja travel time by over 5 hours. The Federal Executive Council, in 2021, approved ₦26.172 billion for its rehabilitation to Sajeto Construction + RN Construction JV, with an additional ₦895.25 million for consultancy services, despite these approvals and releases, there has been no appreciable work done.

Sections at Egabada and Oforachi are impassable, with failed drainage, severe flooding during high raining season, and massive potholes making transportation quite difficult for passengers, the corridor is now notorious for kidnapping. The road serves, College of Health Sciences Idah, Federal Polytechnic Idah, University of Nigeria Nsukka, and key agricultural markets, its neglect has crippled trade and access to education/healthcare for over 2 million citizens.

Your Excellency, I respectfully appeal for Presidential directive for immediate contractor mobilization to site under direct supervision of the Ministry of Works to ensure transparency before the 2026 rainy season peaks, adopting the concrete-pavement and solar lighting standard.

Joint security operations to secure high-risk sections and protect civilians, completing this road will actualize Your Excellency’s Renewed Hope Agenda by decongesting the Niger Bridge, boosting food security, and restoring public confidence in government infrastructure delivery.
