2027: ADC presidential candidate emerges May 25

The presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress will emerge in a primary election fixed for May 25, 2026.

This comes two days after the emergence of the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, fixed for May 23, 2026.

The date was stated in a timetable of activities signed by the ADC National Organising Secretary, Chinedu Idigo, and made available to journalists on Sunday by the National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi.

Also, the ADC fixed its governorship primaries for May 22, 2026.

The party also fixed the cost of its presidential and governorship expression of interest and nomination forms at N100m and N50m respectively, as part of preparations for the 2027 general elections.

Nomination and expression of interest form for the Senate is pegged at N20m, House of Representatives at N10m and the state House of Assembly at N3m.

The Independent National Electoral Commission has fixed January 16, 2027, for the conduct of the Presidential and National Assembly elections, while governorship and state Houses of Assembly polls will take place on February 6, 2027.

INEC also indicated that political party primaries, along with the resolution of related disputes, will be held between April 23 and May 30, 2026.

It further announced that campaigns for the Presidential and National Assembly elections will commence on August 19, 2026, while those for governorship and state assembly races will begin on September 9, 2026.

The sale of nomination and expression of interest forms is scheduled from May 5 to May 10.

Aspirants are expected to submit completed forms between May 11 and May 13, after which screening will be conducted from May 14 to May 15.

The party will publish screening results on May 17, with appeals slated for May 18 and 19. The final list of cleared aspirants will be released on May 20.

The primary elections will commence on May 21, with contests for state Houses of Assembly, the House of Representatives, and Senate seats to be conducted simultaneously at the ward level.

In a move aimed at promoting inclusivity, the party approved concessional rates, granting a 50 per cent discount to youths and a 25 per cent reduction for women and persons with disabilities.

LP offers Otti free nomination

The Labour Party has offered free nomination and expression of interest forms to Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, citing his performance in office and contributions to the party’s image.

“Please note that Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, would receive both his expression of interest and nomination forms free of charge, citing his performance in office and contributions to the party’s image,” LP National Publicity Secretary, Ken Asogwa, stated in a statement on Sunday.

The party also unveiled its timetable and schedule of activities for the 2026 primary elections ahead of the 2027 general polls.

The party pegged its presidential nomination and expression of interest forms at a combined N50m.

In the statement, the LP said the schedule was in line with the 1999 Constitution (as amended), the Electoral Act, 2026, and the timetable released by INEC.

According to the timetable, the sale of nomination forms will commence on May 6 and end on May 16, while submission of completed forms is slated for May 17 to May 18.

A breakdown of the fees shows that House of Assembly aspirants will pay N3m, House of Representatives N5m, Senate N10m, and governorship N25m.

“The party, however, approved concessions for women, youths aged 25 to 30, and persons living with disabilities, who are only required to pay for the expression of interest forms across all categories,” the statement said.

Primaries for House of Assembly and governorship positions are scheduled for May 27, while those for National Assembly and presidential aspirants will take place on May 29.
