Our Silence Must Not Be Taken as Fear, Lokoja Patriotic Front Warn Politicians

The Lokoja Patriotic Front (LPF) has cautioned political actors in Kogi state against misinterpreting the calmness of citizens as weakness, warning that continued provocation and neglect of public concerns could trigger strong civic response.

In a statement issued by Madaki Ibrahim and made available to journalists in Lokoja on Sunday, the group said the patience of residents in Lokoja Local Government Area should not be mistaken for fear or acceptance of poor governance.

The group stressed that many communities have remained restrained despite growing concerns over infrastructure decay, youth unemployment, and what it described as “persistent political marginalisation” in key decision-making processes.

“Our silence must not be taken as fear. It is a deliberate choice for peace and stability, not a sign of weakness,” the statement read.

The Lokoja Patriotic Front urged political office holders and aspirants to focus on issue-based engagement rather than divisive rhetoric, adding that the 2026 political season should be driven by accountability, development plans, and respect for the electorate.

It further called on stakeholders to prioritise unity and avoid actions capable of heightening political tension in the area.

According to the group, Lokoja remains a strategic constituency that deserves more attention in terms of development projects, youth empowerment, and inclusive governance.

The statement also appealed to security agencies to remain neutral and proactive in ensuring peace during political activities, warning against intimidation or the use of force to suppress legitimate civic expression.

The Lokoja Patriotic Front reaffirmed its commitment to peaceful advocacy and constructive engagement, saying it would continue to speak out on issues affecting the welfare of residents in the state capital and surrounding communities.
