May Day: Organized Labour Commends Ododo, Demand Reinstatement of 441 Cleared Civil Servants

Kogi State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Amari Gabriel, has commended Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for fostering industrial harmony and prioritising workers’ welfare.

In his 2026 Workers’ Day address in Lokoja on Friday, Comrade Amari called for urgent reforms to address lingering challenges.

Gabriel acknowledged achievements including prompt salary payments, pension harmonization, promotion cash-backing, and major infrastructure strides, while linking insecurity and poverty to threats against decent work.

He, however, demanded the reinstatement of 441 cleared civil servants, strategic recruitment across critical sectors, improved healthcare and education systems, and the clearance of gratuity backlogs.

The labour leader also called for affordable housing, mass transit, potable water, and restoration of union rights in tertiary institutions.

He assured that the organised labour remains a partner in progress, and urged sustained collaboration with government while encouraging workers to remain steadfast in their pursuit of dignity, productivity, and shared prosperity in Kogi State.

In his address, Governor Ododo, who was represented by his deputy, Comrade Joel Salifu, commended workers in the state for their resilience and dedication, describing them as critical drivers of the state’s growth and stability.

Governor Ododo who declared himself a “co-worker”, said he understands the challenges faced by civil servants.

He reaffirmed his commitment to leading a people-focused administration aimed at building a productive and prosperous state through inclusive governance.

The governor highlighted ongoing civil service reforms are designed to create a competent, efficient, and innovation-driven workforce capable of meeting modern governance demands, and tailored to position Kogi’s public service as a model of excellence nationwide.

Ododo also outlined key achievements in workers’ welfare, including the consistent payment of salaries and pensions, timely promotions, and support for retirees through gratuities.

He added that his administration has maintained industrial harmony through continuous engagement with labour unions while investing in capacity building for workers.
