Elliot Page (formerly Ellen Page; born February 21, 1987) is a Canadian actor, producer, and activist. He is recognized for leading roles in both Canadian and American film and television, as well as his advocacy for LGBTQ rights and against discrimination.

Page started his career in television and gained attention for his role in Hard Candy (2005) and as Kitty Pryde in X-Men: The Last Stand (2006). His film credits also include The Tracey Fragments (2007), Whip It (2009), Super (2010), Inception (2010), X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014), Freeheld (2015), Tallulah (2016), Close to You (2023), and The Odyssey (2026). Biography

Page was born on February 21, 1987, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, to Martha Philpotts, a teacher, and Dennis Page, a graphic designer. Page attended Halifax Grammar School until grade 10 and also went to Queen Elizabeth High School. After graduating from Shambhala School in 2005, he moved to Toronto for two years to study in the Interact Program at Vaughan Road Academy with his friend, Canadian actor Mark Rendall.

Career

Page began acting on camera in 1997 at age ten, playing Maggie Maclean in the CBC movie Pit Pony. The film led to a TV series of the same name, which aired from 1999 to 2000. In 2002, Page played Joanie in Marion Bridge, his first feature film, and appeared as Treena Lahey in five episodes of Trailer Park Boys.

In the early 2000s, Page appeared in the films Touch & Go and Love That Boy. He also starred in the TV movies Homeless to Harvard: The Liz Murray Story and Ghost Cat, for which he won a Gemini Award. In 2004, Page starred in Wilby Wonderful, earning an award at the Atlantic Film Festival and a Genie Award nomination. That same year, he played Lilith Sandström in season one of ReGenesis.

Personal life

On February 14, 2014, Page came out as a lesbian during a speech at the Human Rights Campaign’s “Time to Thrive” conference in Las Vegas. In November 2017, he said that filmmaker Brett Ratner outed him at age 18 on the set of X-Men: The Last Stand. Co-star Anna Paquin confirmed she was present when Ratner made the comment. In a Facebook post, Page thanked those who spoke out against abuse and shared his frustration with people who stayed silent. In 2014, he was named to The Advocate’s annual “40 Under 40” list.

On December 1, 2020, Page announced on social media that he is a trans man, shared his new name, Elliot, and stated his pronouns are he and they. He said he chose to speak openly about his gender identity because of the COVID-19 pandemic and rising anti-transgender rhetoric in politics and the news.

Page was in a relationship with Olivia Thirlby while filming Juno (2007). In 2014, he briefly dated Kate Mara, his co-star in Tiny Detectives (2014) and My Days of Mercy (2017).
