Abiodun, in a Facebook post on Tuesday, described the visit as historic and revealed that he presented Tinubu with a ceremonial sword as a symbolic gesture tied to his traditional title.

“Yesterday, I had the honour and privilege to visit and thank the President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic, for the historic visit to Ogun State to commission the Gateway International Airport, Gateway Airlines, welcome the first cargo airline, and other landmark projects,” the governor said.

He explained that the presentation of the sword was in recognition of the President’s role as the Jagaba of Borgu Kingdom in Nigeria—a title associated with leadership and conquest—while also urging him to sustain efforts in addressing key national challenges.

“I presented him with a ceremonial sword in his esteemed capacity as the Jagaban (leader of warriors/conquerors), urging him to continue his war on crime and criminality, anti-corruption, and particularly as he embarks on the second-term re-election,” Abiodun added.

President Tinubu had, on Saturday, visited Ogun State to commission the Gateway International Airport located in Iperu-Romo, alongside the unveiling of the state-owned airline, Gateway Air.

The projects are seen as a major boost to the state’s infrastructure agenda, with expectations that they will enhance transportation, strengthen logistics networks, and stimulate economic activities across the region.

The commissioning ceremony, broadcast live, also highlighted growing collaboration between the federal and state governments in driving development initiatives.

Tinubu is expected to further inspect and commission additional projects spanning transportation, energy, agriculture, and security, as part of broader efforts to accelerate economic growth in the state.
