Tension In Angwan Rukuba As Women Halt Burial Mass

Women have taken to the streets in the Angwan Rukuba community of Plateau State, carrying leaves and chanting to prevent the planned burial mass for six victims of the recent attack in the area.

The protest by the women is due to allegations that military authorities have arrested three youths from the community as part of investigations into the killings.

The situation escalated as angry youths and women locked the entrance of the church where the burial mass was scheduled to take place. Our correspondent gathered that the church funeral sevices was eventually held and the bodies buried.

It will be recalled that the Angwan Rukuba community of Plateau State was attacked on the evening of Palm Sunday. The attack left over 20 people dead and several others injured.

To console with the affected families and meet with other stakeholders, President Bola Tinubu visited the state, where he promised a reinforced security presence and the installation of 5000 AI-enabled CCTV to ensure 24-hour round-the-clock security surveillance of the state.

Security forces have also deployed more forcefully, with troops of the Nigerian Army arresting a suspect on Monday and recovering an AK-47 Rifle from him.
