Court Grants Bauchi Finance Commissioner, Others ₦100 Million Bail

The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to the Bauchi State Commissioner for Finance, Yakubu Adamu, and his three co-defendants in the alleged $9.7 million terrorism financing case filed against them.

Naija News reports that Justice Muhammad Umar, who delivered the ruling on Tuesday, admitted each of the defendants to ₦100 million bail.

The judge ordered that each defendant must provide two sureties, who must be a permanent secretary and a director in the civil service.

Justice Umar also directed the defendants to deposit their international passports with the court registry as part of the bail conditions.

In addition, the court ordered Adamu and his co-defendants to report weekly to the Department of State Services (DSS) office in Bauchi State every Monday until the determination of the case.

In his ruling, Justice Umar held that the defendants had placed sufficient materials before the court to warrant the exercise of judicial discretion in their favour.

“The defendants have placed enough materials before this court for the court to exercise its discretion judicially and judiciously,” the judge said.

The commissioner and his co-defendants are facing charges bordering on alleged terrorism financing involving $9.7 million, which they have denied.

Justice Umar subsequently adjourned the case to February 26 for the commencement of trial.
