Umahi’s Son, Osborn Picks APC Forms to Vie for Ohaozara LG Chairmanship

In a move signaling the continuation of a powerful political dynasty in Ebonyi State, Osborn Umahi, son of Minister of Works Senator David Umahi, has formally collected nomination and expression of interest forms from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to contest the chairmanship of Ohaozara Local Government Area.

The aspiring politician picked up the forms on Friday at the APC state secretariat along Waterworks Road in Abakaliki, ahead of the local government elections slated for August 2026.

Osborn was accompanied by a formidable entourage, including serving and former members of the Ebonyi State Executive Council, past and present council chairmen, key party stakeholders from Ohaozara, and a large crowd of enthusiastic supporters.

The impressive turnout underscored the significant backing he enjoys within the ruling party and the local community.

APC State Chairman Stanley Okoro-Emegha warmly received him, describing Osborn as “an intelligent and dynamic young politician” with the vision and capacity to drive grassroots development.

He praised Governor Francis Nwifuru’s commitment to youth inclusion in governance, noting that the administration has consistently created platforms for young leaders to contribute to the state’s progress.

In his remarks after obtaining the forms, Osborn expressed deep gratitude to party leaders, stakeholders, and the people of Ohaozara for their overwhelming support and nomination. He pledged to focus on key priorities if elected, including: Human capital development and youth empowerment; Grassroots economic empowerment; Aggressive infrastructure projects and Enhanced security measures at the local level

Osborn also paid tribute to Governor Nwifuru’s youth-friendly policies and vowed to justify the confidence placed in him.

He emphasized his intention to build upon the enduring infrastructure legacy established by his father—former Ebonyi State Governor and current federal minister—and the ongoing transformative efforts of the present administration.

The development comes amid reports that Osborn was among aspirants endorsed by Governor Nwifuru as preferred APC candidates across the state’s 13 local government areas, further highlighting the strong alignment between the Umahi political family and the current state leadership.
